چکیده

Global change represents the greatest challenge facing forest managers today. The uncertainty and variability of potential future impacts shifting climatic disturbance regimes has led resource to seek out alternative approaches sustain long-term delivery ecosystem services. We use a spatially explicit landscape simulation model, LANDIS-II, examine evaluate range effects current adaptive management under three projected climate scenarios within forested in southeastern Vermont, USA. found that land-use legacies inertia associated with successional trajectories are likely be dominant driver composition biomass conditions for next 100 years. Nevertheless, is have greater influence on species aboveground over 200 Eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) red spruce (Picea rubens) experience reductions compression relative dominance landscape. American beech (Fagus grandifolia) sugar maple (Acer saccharum) persist continue occupy prominent compositional position forests this region. Extreme warming RCP 8.5 projections resulted shifts landscape-scale (120.09 ± 4.51 Mg·ha-1) at end year when compared 4.5 (150.55 1.04 (147.90 0.79 Mg·ha-1). These findings highlight expected lag changing climate, which present significant challenges opportunities as critical services

A Conceptual Framework for Adaptive Forest Management under Climate Change

The consensus among most scientists is that the global climate is changing in response to a rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions over the past 150 years. This perspective has prompted research on potential changes in future forest conditions so that management interventions might be developed to protect desired ecosystem services. Some of the most significant forest trends expected in res...

Altered dynamics of forest recovery under a changing climate.

Forest regeneration following disturbance is a key ecological process, influencing forest structure and function, species assemblages, and ecosystem-climate interactions. Climate change may alter forest recovery dynamics or even prevent recovery, triggering feedbacks to the climate system, altering regional biodiversity, and affecting the ecosystem services provided by forests. Multiple lines o...

Conservation Ecology: Variability in fire frequency and forest composition i...'s southeastern boreal forest: a challenge for sustainable forest management

Forest management scenarios in a changing climate: trade-offs between carbon, timber, and old forest.

Balancing economic, ecological, and social values has long been a challenge in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, where conflict over timber harvest and old-growth habitat on public lands has been contentious for the past several decades. The Northwest Forest Plan, adopted two decades ago to guide management on federal lands, is currently being revised as the region searches for a balance be...

Market Adaptive Control Function Optimization in Continuous Cover Forest Management

Economically optimal management of a continuous cover forest is considered here. Initially, there is a large number of trees of different sizes and the forest may contain several species. We want to optimize the harvest decisions over time, using continuous cover forestry, which is denoted by CCF. We maximize our objective function, the expected present value, with consideration of stochastic p...
